GET SET TO 'GO' MEETING, 3rd February, Town Hall
The major event for the BID was a public meeting at the Town Hall on 3rd February when Matt Robinson gave an update on where the BID has got to and what initiatives are being looked at. There were presentations from Trent FM, Nottingham Uni and PNDesign, plus Matt discussed the power of marketing via the interactive touch-screens to increase footfall in Beeston Town Centre.
Matt was very pleased with the turnout at the meeting where there was standing room only at the Town Hall.
"The mood was very positive from the audience and afterwards I tried to speak to as many of you as possible. I was very encouraged how well the Business Plan was received. One bit of feedback was that we had more attendance at our meeting than the Nottingham BID got at theirs. This proves that we are getting our PR and Marketing right, and that many business managers are genuinely interested in the future of their town."
The Business Plan was discussed in detail and you can download the full version here.

11.06.09 Tesco receives planning permission
Tesco's arrival in Beeston will bring more people to Town. However, unless we act, these people will not visit the Town Centre after visiting Tesco. In addition to this, shoppers who usually use the Town Centre will be drawn to Tesco.
With the BID we have the power to address this problem and take advantage of the increased foot fall in Beeston, due to Tesco. We can direct shoppers towards the town centre before or after their Tesco shopping. With town centre marketing we can ensure shoppers visit the town centre as well as Tesco. Unless we pull together as a BID there is a real risk that foot fall and therefore trade will drop in the town centre once Tesco arrives.

28.06.09 Net Tram Phase 2
After visiting the majority of Businesses in Beeston one of your Key issues towards Developing Business in Beeston is, "What is happening with the tram?" I have spoken to NET and have received the below email which gives you the latest update on the tram in Beeston.
We are currently waiting for a decision from central government over the workplace parking levy (WPL). The Secretary of State could reject or approve WPL, or approve it under certain conditions. We don't know when this decision will be made, but it could be as soon as this summer. As the majority of the city council's contribution towards NET Phase 2 - the extension of the existing tram system to Clifton and Beeston - comes from the WPL this is obviously an important decision.
75% of the cost of Net Phase 2 comes from central government, with the remaining 25% of funding raised locally. Of the local funds 80% will be raised by Nottingham City Council and 20% was due to be raised by Nottinghamshire County Council – this is the proportion of the funding that is in doubt now that the new Conservative administration has taken over at county level.
The City Council is committed to NET Phase 2 and will do all it can to make sure it goes ahead. We are willing to work with the County Council on this; at present it looks as if the County Council will not provide their share of the funding. If the County Council actively works against NET Phase 2 this could also cause problems, as we must prove to central government that NET Phase 2 is viable at a local level, and must demonstrate that the City Council could go it alone if necessary. There is also the possibility that areas of land that belong to the county council could be sold off, effectively blocking the development of the route in certain areas. Also, obviously, if the County Council's share of the funding is not provided from them it will have to come from elsewhere. The situation with regards to the County Council is developing day by day.
Provided the WPL is approved and things keep progressing, the estimated start of construction will be late 2011, with the tram system extensions expected to be up and running by late 2014.
